# For creators

Make things for Kouch and share them — emulator profiles, themes, plugins and mods.

Kouch is built to be extended by the people who use it. Everything you can make is **data** (or, for plugins, sandboxed code), checked by Kouch before it's used, and shown to the person importing it.

| Make                    | It is                                                 | Start here                                                               |

| **An emulator profile** | A `.kod` file that teaches Kouch one emulator. | [Write an emulator profile](/for-creators/creators/emulator-profiles.md) |
| **A theme**             | A folder with `theme.json`, images, sounds and fonts. | [Make a theme](/for-creators/creators/themes.md)                         |
| **A plugin**            | A small WebAssembly module with a manifest.           | [Write a plugin](/for-creators/creators/plugins.md)                      |
| **A mod**               | A folder of files for one or more games.              | [Make a mod](/for-creators/creators/mods.md)                             |

## Rules for everything you share

* **No games, BIOS, firmware or keys**, and nothing that points at them or says where to get them.
* **No console brand names** in Kouch content: use neutral names like "System A" and describe controllers by type. The one exception: a Workshop theme may include console or controller imagery if it says so (`device_imagery`).
* **No art for specific games** in themes.
* **Only share what you made** or have the rights to share.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.kouch.dev/for-creators/creators.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
