# Third-party assets and libraries

This file lists every third-party asset (font, icon, sound, image) and redistributed binary/SDK bundled with Kouch, along with its license. Per `docs/DESIGN.md` §12 item 2, **any new third-party icon, font, sound, or image added to the repo must get an entry here in the same commit** — `npm run brand-lint` / the design-lint checklist treats a missing entry as a failure. Ordinary Rust/npm dependencies pulled from crates.io/npm are covered by their own package manifests and don't need an entry here unless they redistribute a binary or asset directly (as `steamworks-sys` does).

## Fonts

| Asset            | Source            | License                                                                   | Location                                                               |
| ---------------- | ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Inter (variable) | The Inter Project | SIL Open Font License 1.1, "Copyright (c) 2016 The Inter Project Authors" | `app/ui/public/fonts/InterVariable.woff2` + `LICENSE.txt` alongside it |

## Redistributed SDKs / binaries

| Component                                                                                    | Source                                                                                 | License                                                                                                                                          | Notes                                                                                                                                                                                 |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Steamworks SDK 1.64 headers + redistributables (`steam_api64.dll`/`.lib`, `libsteam_api.so`) | Bundled inside the `steamworks-sys` crate (0.13.0) via the `steamworks` crate (0.13.1) | Valve Corporation's Steamworks SDK license terms (not MIT/Apache — see the SDK's own license text under the crate's vendored `lib/steam/` files) | `build.rs` uses the bundled copy unless `STEAM_SDK_LOCATION` is set; files under `lib/steam/` are governed by Valve's terms, distinct from the rest of the Rust workspace's licensing |

## UI sounds

Kouch's UI sounds (`move`, `accept`, `back`, `error`, `launch`) are synthesized in-house by `scripts/gen-sounds.mjs` (pure sine/square tone generation, no samples, no third-party audio) and are **not** third-party assets. They do not need an entry here; this note exists so a reviewer does not add one by mistake. A Workshop theme that replaces them with its own audio is the theme author's content, not Kouch's, and is not tracked in this file either.

## Adding a new entry

When you add a new third-party asset or a library that redistributes a binary/asset:

1. Add a row to the appropriate table above (or a new table if it's a new category) with the asset name, source/upstream project, exact license, and where it lives in the repo.
2. If the license text itself must ship alongside the asset (as with Inter's `LICENSE.txt`), confirm that file is present and committed next to the asset.
3. Confirm the addition doesn't conflict with `CLAUDE.md` ground rule 1 (no third-party console brand names/imagery) or ground rule 2 (no ROMs/BIOS/firmware/keys) — third-party assets here are things like fonts and SDKs, never game content.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.kouch.dev/docs/third_party.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
