# Look and display

Black or White, the ambient background, fullscreen, text size, the safe area for TVs, idle dim and reduced motion.

Everything here is in **Settings › Display**. The most-used ones are also in quick access (**Select**).

## Look

## Text and screen

| **Text scale**                           | Makes all text bigger or smaller, from 85 % to 150 %.                                                                                                                          | 100 %        |
| **Safe area, horizontal** / **vertical** | Keeps everything away from the screen's edges, from 0 to 8 %. Raise it if a TV cuts off the edges of the picture. The **Safe area preview** shows the result as you change it. | 5 % each     |
| **Idle dim**                             | Dims the screen after this many minutes with nobody touching anything, from 1 to 30 (**Off** to never dim). Any button brings it back.                                         | 5 min        |
| **Reduced motion**                       | **On** swaps sliding and zooming for quick fades. **Match system** follows your system's own setting.                                                                          | Match system |

Kouch fits itself to any screen: a Steam Deck, a laptop, a TV, an ultrawide or a 4K monitor. On wider screens you get more games per row, not bigger buttons.
