# Split-pair controllers

Controllers that come apart into two halves, held together or sideways as two players.

A **split-pair controller** comes apart into two halves: a left half and a right half. Kouch shows it as **Split-pair controller** with a two-halves outline.

## Today: both halves as one controller

Hold both halves together, as one controller. Your system pairs them, and Kouch seats them as **one player**. Motion comes from the halves the way your system presents them.

**Coming in a later build.** Kouch's own pairing of the halves is built, but it's switched off until it passes a hardware check with Steam running. Until then the halves work as described above.

When it's switched on:

* **Pair as one controller:** press both halves' top shoulder buttons at the same time.
* **One half held sideways, as its own player:** press the half's two side buttons. Each half becomes its own player, with its stick and buttons turned to match how you hold it. Two halves make two players.
* **Mixed:** pairs, single halves and other controllers can all play at once.
* **Re-grip without leaving your seat** on the Players screen, in **Reorder** mode (**Y**):
  * pick up one sideways half (**A**) and drop it on the other half (**Drop on the other half to join**) to make them one controller;
  * on a joined pair, press **RT** (**Split into two**) to split it back into two halves.
* Each half has its own motion, rumble and lights. A pair uses the right half's motion.
