# Button prompts and navigation

Button glyphs that match your controller, and which button confirms.

## Button prompts

Kouch draws every button prompt with one set of button glyphs: by default, the Steam Controller's. Change it in **Settings › Controllers › Button prompts**:

| Choice                         | What you see                                                                                     |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Steam Controller** (default) | The Steam Controller's button glyphs, whatever you hold.                                         |
| **Match each controller**      | Each controller's own glyphs, as Steam shows them: letters on one controller, shapes on another. |
| **Lettered buttons (A B X Y)** | Letters everywhere, whatever you hold.                                                           |
| **Shape buttons**              | Shapes everywhere.                                                                               |
| **Neutral shapes**             | Kouch's own plain glyphs.                                                                        |

While you use the keyboard, prompts show keys instead (**Enter**, **Esc**, **M**…). See [Keyboard and mouse](/getting-started/finding-your-way.md#keyboard-and-mouse).

This guide always names buttons by position: **A** is the **bottom** face button, **B** the **right** one, **X** the **left** one and **Y** the **top** one.

## Which button confirms

Under **Settings › Controllers › Navigation**:

* **Confirm with the bottom button** (default): the bottom face button chooses and the right one goes back.
* **Confirm with the right button:** the other way round, if that's what your hands expect.

Joining is always the **bottom** button, whichever you choose.
