# FAQ

Short answers to the questions people ask most.

<summary>Does Kouch come with games or emulators?</summary>

No. Kouch starts **your** emulators with **your** games. It can install an emulator for you, from the emulator's official releases, when you import a profile that names them. It never provides games, BIOS, firmware or keys. See [What Kouch never does](/about-kouch/promises.md).

<summary>Where do I get games and system files?</summary>

From what you own. Kouch doesn't say where to get them, and never gets them for you. Put your games in `Emulation\roms\<system>`. Drop your own system files onto Kouch and it places them for the right emulator, or copy them into the folder Kouch shows for each emulator.

<summary>Do I need Steam?</summary>

Yes. Kouch is a Steam app, and it reads controllers through Steam Input. Start it from your Steam library. See [Start Kouch from Steam](/getting-started/start-from-steam.md).

<summary>Why isn't Kouch on the Steam store?</summary>

It's in alpha, and its Steam page is waiting for approval. Until then you add it to Steam yourself as a non-Steam game, and a few Steam features stay off. See [What works in the alpha](/getting-started/alpha.md).

<summary>How many players can play?</summary>

Up to 8, every one with motion, as far as the emulator supports. See [Join with a controller](/controllers/joining.md).

<summary>Do I have to set up controllers in each emulator?</summary>

No. The emulator's profile sets the emulator up to read controllers from Kouch, and Kouch hands each player to the right seat. Change seats in Kouch, not in the emulator. See [Players and seats](/controllers/players-and-seats.md).

<summary>Does Kouch install a driver?</summary>

No. Kouch never needs one.

<summary>I already have an Emulation folder. Will Kouch mess it up?</summary>

No. Choose it in setup with **Use the existing Emulation folder** on. Kouch only adds what's missing and shows you every change before making it. See [First-run setup](/getting-started/first-run-setup.md).

<summary>Can I use Kouch with a keyboard and mouse?</summary>

Yes: every screen works with the arrow keys, **Enter** and **Esc**, and with a mouse. A keyboard and mouse can also be a player in games. See [Finding your way around](/getting-started/finding-your-way.md) and [Keyboard and mouse as a player](/controllers/keyboard-and-mouse.md).

<summary>Can I play online?</summary>

Yes, with friends who also run Kouch, through the emulator's own netplay, for emulators whose profile describes it. Remote Play Together, which works with any emulator, comes with Kouch's Steam release. See [Online play](/online/online.md).

<summary>Are my saves backed up?</summary>

They're in your Emulation folder, under `saves`. You can back them up into a `.kod` file, or copy them to another PC with Transfer. Steam Cloud sync comes with Kouch's Steam release. See [Back up and restore](/emulators/emulators/backup.md).

<summary>Can I put my games in Steam's library?</summary>

Yes, each as its own tile with art, in a collection per system. See [Your games in Steam's library](/steam/steam/steam-library.md).

<summary>Can I change how Kouch looks?</summary>

Yes: Black or White, an accent colour, themes, your own theme, sounds and music, and (in the next build) your own Home. See [Themes](/customize/themes.md) and [Edit Home](/home/home/edit-home.md).

<summary>Something's wrong. What do I send?</summary>
